Software Spotlight: Adopets Online Adoption Platform

In advance of this week’s upcoming Roundtable, we wanted to give you a sneak peek at one of the cool new tools that’ll be discussed on Wednesday—software that takes your adoption application process online, from showcasing available pets to facilitating payment. Read our quick Q&A with Adopets’ Chief Customer Officer, Jeremy Macdonald, and be sure to join us at 5 pm ET/2 Pacific on November 18 if you wanna know more and/or have questions. Register for the Roundtable here.

The Association: What does Adopets software do, and what does a shelter need to do to prepare for moving to an Adopets system?
Jeremy Macdonald: Adopets compliments your shelter software and provides seamless online services such as online applications, scheduling, contracting, and mobile payment. Setting it up is easy—our team does it for you!

The Association: How long does it take to get up and running?
It takes us one day to set up your account. Once it is set up, we host an online training and send you your log-in information so your team can test the Adopets system. Once you are ready to go live, we make your account live.

The Association: What are the top three ways Adopets streamlines the adoption process?
Adopets streamlines the adoption process by enabling you to receive online applications, whether they’re from people visiting your website or in your shelter. Another way we help streamline your adoption process is by automating email communications, so adopters know where they are in the process and your staff doesn’t need to send manual emails to each adopter.

Additionally, Adopets helps streamline the contracting and payment process, so that adopters can do this on their mobile phones.

The Association: Please share a real-life example of the process in action.
Adopets helps San Diego Humane Society receive online applications and schedule adopters to meet animals at their shelters. Adopters can easily search available animals on San Diego Humane’s website and then complete an adoption questionnaire. The adopter receives a confirmation email with a link to schedule a meet-and-greet at the shelter. Staff review the application online and provide adopters both remote adoption counseling and in-shelter adoption counseling. When the adoption is approved, the adopter signs their contract and pays online.

The Association: What specific feedback have you received from shelters about Adopets?
JM: We are in business to help you adopt more pets, faster, and the feedback has been wonderful. The number-one thing shelters comment on is the importance of having a seamless system for managing remote adoption inquiries and the process of scheduling, approving, and contracting.

Shelters are also our best source of new product ideas, so we partner closely with our shelters to add features, like automatically removing available animals from their website when they have received a specified number of applications for the animal.

The Association: How has usage of the app been impacted by COVID-19?
JM: COVID has made online services critical to shelter success, and Adopets is helping 5 to 10 new customers each week. Now they can operate a system that makes it easier on shelter staff to manage adoptions.

The Association: What’s your favorite Adopets feature?
My favorite feature is Online Events, which enables shelters to host virtual adoption events. The Online Events feature supports single organization events, or events with multiple organizations. As shelters have not been able to host their normal in-person events, this feature makes it easy for you to engage your community in virtual adoption events and meet the critical need for matching animals with adopters.

The Association is the only international society of leaders actively leading and managing community animal shelters/animal control agencies.
