February Letter from the President

Dear Friends,

I was on a flight this morning, thinking about SAWA’s many fantastic sponsors — those individuals and companies who make our work possible — and a song started playing in my head:

“What would you think if I sang out of tune, would you stand up and walk out on me….”

Yep, like the Beatles, SAWA gets by “with a little help from our friends.” Actually, we get by with a lot of help from our friends. And, thanks to their help, we’re able to do a lot more than just “get by.” We’re able to thrive and continue moving the needle for the professionals who make up the animal welfare and animal care and control industry.

Our sponsors support not only the two face-to-face conferences for which we’re perhaps best known, but also all the work we do throughout the year. Thanks to sponsor support, we’ve developed three important Best Practices documents to help raise the bar for the whole industry. We have delivered extraordinary executive leadership training to state and regional animal welfare federation events, reaching a much broader audience than will ever attend a SAWA event. We have helped connect those with resources to those in need in the face of natural disaster. Through our Certified Animal Welfare Administrator credentialing program, we’ve helped the cream of the crop achieve a level of recognition unprecedented in our industry. We have worked hard to build bridges between the animal welfare and veterinary professions, knowing there is extreme value and power in combining forces on issues of common interest and benefit.

The list goes on and on. We would be able to deliver only a small fraction of what we deliver to the industry without the support of our sponsors. So, I would like to take this opportunity to thank them very publicly here — and to ask you, our members, to thank them as well. Let these companies know how much you appreciate the support they provide our industry. Here’s a list of our 2017 sponsors, most of whom have been partners with SAWA for many years and will likely be partners for many more years ahead:
